15 Of The Best Beaches In Kefalonia You Don’t Want To Miss

Life is better by the sea.

The Greek island of Kefalonia has some of the most beautiful beaches we have seen. With crystal clear water, so many shades of blue and turquoise with white sand, pebbly beaches, dramatic landscapes and beaches surrounded by lush greenery.

There are beaches for those who love to people watch, beaches in secluded bays perfect for snorkelling, beaches for those who want to take in the incredible views and sit in peace, beaches for families with calm waters, and beaches for watersports enthusiasts. We first visited Greece in 2021, we went to the beautiful island of Crete which blew us away. So, we didn’t quite expect Kefalonia to surpass our expectations.

We travelled around Kefalonia for over two weeks and visited many beaches, coves, and bays. In this post, I have included a list of the ones we visited our favourites. It’s time to share our Kefalonia beach tips with you, from the South where we stayed, all the way to the North and the stops along the way. One of the highlights of our trip was the beaches we visited and stumbled across. There is a beach for everyone, you won’t be disappointed. Here are…

15 Of The Best Beaches In Kefalonia You Don’t Want To Miss

1. Myrtos Beach – famous for being the most photographed beach in Kefalonia, surrounded by steep white cliffs. You first need to witness this beach from the viewpoint above on your way to Assos or Fiskardo. It’s simply a breathtaking sight. There is a beach bar, toilets and changing rooms, sunbeds and parasols to rent for 15 euros (in August), or you can sit on the beach however it is a pebbly beach. The beach is easily accessible by car and there is parking however to park with ease I would recommend visiting before 11 am. Whether you’re looking to relax on the pristine shore, swim in the crystal-clear turquoise waters, or admire the breathtaking views, Myrtos Beach provides an unforgettable experience.

2. Antisamos Beach – another famous beach in Kefalonia, this time for being in the movie Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. Don’t forget to stop off at the viewpoint above. Surrounded by lush greenery it is unlike any other beach. In August you will find an array of beach bars charging for sunbeds and parasols, food and drink – we would recommend the Antisamos Beach Bar to the far right as you enter the car park. The beach is pebbly, the water is calm and bright turquoise. There are watersports to the right of the beach which we the boys enjoyed.

3. Fiskardo Beach – a small cove to the end of the Venetian Village. Picture the perfect shingle beach, and olive trees with the most incredible view out to sea surrounded by colourful houses. The water was calm and shallow, crystal clear perfect for a dip to cool off after exploring Fiskardo harbour and beyond. No facilities.

4. Kako Lagadi – A hidden gem, located between Skala and Poros. It is a beach cove that you will need to scramble down to or is accessible via boat. To get there you will walk down the hillside from the roadside, onto a narrow path that goes through the rocks. You will find a beach with crystal clear water and pebbles with caves. Kako Lagadi is a beautiful secluded cove, perfect for snorkelling however there are no facilities.

5. *Koroni Beach – located just below the villa we rented, situated between Lourdas and Katelios. You access it via a dirt track and steep winding road. A peaceful beach, with calm water and sand that offers you an incredible sunset view. There are a small number of sun loungers and parasols to rent. You will find a really fun beach bar serving food and drink, sadly with no toilet facilities. Free parking.

6. *Avithos Beach – one of our favourites, near Argostoli. A beautiful and interesting, long and narrow beach. It’s small, secluded, perfect for paddle boarding, and has calm waters and great facilities including parking. A sandy and tranquil beach perfect for taking in the views and spending a few hours together. It has a sense of calmness which we enjoyed. Best of all, you will find Avithos Preview above the beach which serves awesome wine and the best Calamari of the whole trip.

7. Skala Beach – located in the south of Kefalonia. It’s a 3km stretch of sand and shingle, and with clear blue waters, it is excellent for snorkelling. There are plenty of sunbeds for hire, outside many bars where you can order food and refreshments from your spot on the beach. We enjoyed the beach towards the far end as you leave for Poros. Ammos Beach Bar is located here. The food and vibe was one of our favourites from our trip. This area of the beach is much quieter and less crowded.

8. *Kaminia Beach – famous for turtles although we only saw nests rather than hatchings. Located in the south close to Skala and has another nearby beach called Mounda, the two connect therefore creating a long stretch of sand and sea. Great for families as the sea is shallow and calm. If you are looking for somewhere to grab lunch, we can recommend the beach bar called Tartarooga. A relaxed vibe with good facilities and excellent food.

9. Makris Gialos Beach – located in Lassi, this is a beach renowned for being the most organised on the island. It has a high number of sunbeds lining the beach in the Summer months. We visited as the boys both fancied doing watersports here. A sandy beach with crystal clear waters and calm water. In August we found it to be overcrowded. I didn’t enjoy this beach as much as others, however the boys did which is why it is on the list. We ate lunch at Costa Costa which I wouldn’t recommend, it was self-serve and incredibly expensive. Good parking and facilities.

10. White Rocks Beach – what can I say, awe-inspiring. My favourite. The beach is located in a natural place with very picturesque views, surrounded by cliffs. We accessed this boat as part of our Queen Bee Boat Trip which I would highly recommend. Imagine yourself on a secluded beach where turquoise waters lap against white sand, framed by the tallest limestone cliffs that seem to touch the sky. This is where you will ditch the crowds and truly feel like you have escaped.

11. Koutsoupia Beach – the shore of Koutsoupia is a secluded beach located on the eastern side of the island, accessible only via boat. It has bright white pebbles and deep crystal clear azure waters, perfect for a refreshing swim. You will find a beach shack which serves drinks and snacks for you to enjoy before getting back on your boat. There is limited shade from the sun, so do pack an umbrella if you plan to spend time on the beach.

12. Karavomylos Lake – stay with me. Not quite a beach, however, there is a long and narrow pebble beach which wraps around to the west side of Sami, minutes from Melisanni Caves. It is peaceful and perfect for swimming and snorkelling. There is a taverna towards the end of the lake where we enjoyed coffee and baklava.

13. Lourdas Beach – situated mid-way along the south coast, this chilled beach is set in a sheltered bay, against the stunning backdrop of Mount Ainos. With restaurants lined up above on the promenade. The beach is covered with white sand, sunbeds and umbrellas to rent. The beach is narrow however you can catch an incredible sunset here. The sea was calm, clean and warm when we visited in August 2024. There are showers dotted along the beach with parking and facilities available.

14. Agia Thomas – a popular beach with families, there was a small sandy beach area split into two and separated by rocks which you can climb over. There is also a lagoon perfect for snorkelling with steps leading into the water. The beach area is small, the water is shallow and there is a superb beach bar called Tratamento sitting above the lagoon, with great views across to Zakynthos.

15. Foki Beach – it was quite spectacular. Foki Beach is a hidden gem that offers a truly tranquil and picturesque coastal experience. Unlike any other beach we visited. It is beyond the bay from Fiskardo. It felt like we were back in America. We’ve heard it is great for cliff jumping, although we didn’t manage to. George enjoyed snorkelling and swimming in the clear blue water. There was a restaurant as you approached the beach, shaded areas on the beach from the sun for families but no facilities. Take a walk through the woodland area to see the view across the bay.
