Since Bob, our Chocolate Labrador arrived into our lives we have enjoyed exploring local pubs and restaurants to find the best ones. The ones that made us feel comfortable, welcoming of puppies to grown dogs, truly are dog and family friendly with great food and drink.
Combining a long walk with a drink or meal out is the perfect way to spend a weekend. During the pandemic we lost our first family fur baby and when we look back – we feel so sad that we never got to enjoy eating and drinking out with him. We rescued Alf from a shelter and struggled to train him to be around other dogs. So, when we decided to bring Bob into our family we made a promise to each other – that we would take him out with us as much as possible, take him on holidays and really enjoy being in social situations together.
If you’re looking for the perfect dog friendly spot then look no further, here are…
The best dog friendly restaurants & bars in Staffordshire
1. The Fitzherbert Arms, Nr Stone
And it’s at the top of our list. A real village pub complete with roaring fires and dog treats on the bar. The food never disappoints, the service is fantastic and the atmosphere is perfect. The Fitz has it all. It’s our favourite spot and our Boxing Day haunt for years.
2. The Hand and Trumpet, Woore
One of the first country pubs we visited as a couple many many years ago. We have really enjoyed visiting since the pandemic. As a dog owner you do tend to eat and drink in the bar area or outside, which I actually prefer to the formal restaurant. The menu never disappoints and neither does the atmosphere. The Crème Brulee is very special indeed.
3. Plume of Feathers, Barlaston
We first visited as the world began to open in 2021, like so many it felt great to be eating and drinking outside of our home. Like with The Hand and Trumpet, dog owners are directed to the bar area or outdoor seating which again we much preferred to the formal dining space. The food and dog friendly atmosphere was awesome.
4. The Mainwaring Arms, Whitmore
Newly renovated and the sister Pub to The Fitz. Not as big but it has a great feel, cosy inside with a warm and friendly feeling. As it’s quite small it’s hard to get a table. The trick is to get there before 5 and soon after midday, grab a spot before the crowds arrive. We had a great meal.
5. Willow, Trentham
The new kid on the block. Part of the Paragon Group. We made it over for breakfast on Christmas Eve and knew we’d return. A very different feel to the others. Not a traditional pub or ‘cosy feel’. It’s different, but a good different. And, they have dog beds for your furry friends which Bob loved.
6. KPA, Keele
A hidden gem nestled in the Keele University Campus, on the outskirts of Keele woods. KPA is in such a great location, combine a walk with your furry friend in the woods before stopping off for a drink on the terrace or cosy up inside for a hearty Sunday lunch! So quirky inside with a really warm and friendly vibe.
