This year it was a little different
Like so many of you, I found myself celebrating my birthday in a very different way this year. My 40th feels so long ago now, especially after everything 2020 threw at us. So this year for my 41st birthday, it was just us, without my friends and family. Bars and restaurants were closed, there was nothing to do other than to go for a walk. The snow was still all around us so we made the most of the situation.
There was sledging, hot chocolate (and then Gin), my first rope swing and laughter. Lots of laughter. It was different but lovely. Of course it was. And there were presents. I am so lucky. The gifts from my family and friends were so thoughtful. Having a birthday right at the beginning of a new year often goes unnoticed. So usually we go out for breakfast as a family and maybe dinner with friends. Often it’s the smallest moments that bring the most joy. I guess that’s how I’d describe turning 41 in a national stay home, stay safe zone.
I’m going to ignore the fact that Boris took it upon himself to say on the morning of my birthday that he would be making a formal announcement that evening. Thank goodness the girls in the office made returning to work on my birthday so much fun. Full of confetti and surprise. Because my 8.10pm that night we were back in a National Lockdown.
But, before that happened this is how my birthday looked…
I just realised, we’re heading closer to the end of January – this month has flown by. I hope it hasn’t been too tough and that you’ve found some small moments of joy.
