Making time for the little things
Autumn really is a wonder. It marks the transition from Summer to Winter, when the mornings and nights are darker but the sunrise and sunsets are sweeter. When the temperature drops and my thoughts turn to digging out my winter wardrobe. The first few weeks are my favourite when we’re surrounded by such colourful nature. The trees, the blue skies and the blanket of leaves on the ground all around us.
Making time for the little things feels so important right now. So many moments we are trying to savour and protect. To appreciate and be thankful for. As restrictions and movements are tightening across the country I am so thankful for being able to see family and friends. Hopefully we remain in Tier 1 as we approach October half term.
Why I love this time of year
Slowing down, lazy weekends reading a magazine under a blanket, lighting my black cherry candle, wearing cashmere socks and drinking hot chocolate after early morning football matches. Long walks with Bobby around the lake at Trentham Gardens – wrapped up in our cosy knitwear, the sound of leaves crunching under foot. Saturday evenings spent drinking wine by a log fire and playing family card games. Roast dinners and apple crumble with lashings of custard. Puppy cuddles and movie afternoons, hot tea and dunking biscuits. The morning frost and mist spreading across the marsh as I drive to the office.
At a time when the world feels a little uncertain, with so many plans re written and the unknown ahead of us during the most magical time of the year – that’s why I am making time for the little things. Remaining positive and finding joy in the small things is my saviour right now.
