Mother’s Day, 22nd March 2020. It feels like an important date. A day we will remember. One because it was full of all the little things I love. Pancakes for breakfast, a long walk, the sun was shining, a roast dinner and a movie afternoon. And the most gorgeous card and words inside written by my gorgeous George. But most of all we were together as a family. Safe and healthy. It really is the little things.
Mother’s Day, 22nd March – a happy day. The day before our country was put into a state of lockdown. Or as close to. We had a feeling this day was coming so we took the opportunity to visit one of our favourite spots, Trentham Gardens. I only wish we had been able to share it with Nanny. The gardens were so beautiful in the Spring sunshine. Looking back at these photos brings so much joy.
Mother’s Day, it has been a whole week since. We walked around in the fresh air, with blue skies all around us, daffodils dancing in the breeze. We enjoyed the sunshine on our faces. The wind in our hair. And the smell of Spring filling the air around us. George drank hot chocolate and Mr H and I ate ice cream. We took some family photos and enjoyed the freedom. All whilst maintaining our distance – in truth there were very few walkers around. I am grateful for being able to take one last walk around the gardens. They really do shine at this time of year.
To my boys, my family, my world – I love you latte.
I will miss this space whilst it’s closed. We all will. Until next time Trentham. We will be back. With a picnic and a blanket. We will enjoy the views. We will eat ice cream. Spot the fairies. Ride the boat. Most of all I’m looking forward to walking through the trellis walk and smelling the flowers. Our favourite pastime.
We’ve not made it to Trentham Gardens yet this year – I had been planning to buy an annual pass with our Tesco vouchers, though I guess that will have to wait now. It looks like you had such a lovely Mothers Day. The card George got you is so sweet – and perfect for you!

The card was treasured, especially as he picked it himself. I am really missing Trentham Gardens – they are all about to go into full bloom. Such a shame
