How to wear a Shacket – Wardrobe Edit

I posted a photo on my Insta wearing a Shacket, I devoted my love to said Shacket and was overwhelmed by all those saying they didn’t know what one was. And so I thought I’d answer the question and share some of my favourites.

A Shacket my loves is a shirt thick enough to be halfway between a shirt and a jacket — perfect for all year-round layering. See what they did there?

It’s a fashion hybrid perfect for Spring. Those who know me will know that I’m a huge fan of layering, it’s my favourite kind of dressing. And after finding this one in the sale at Topshop I am declaring it a wardrobe essential. I am so glad that I invested. I’ve seen them around for months, mainly plaid or in brighter colours, shorter than this which looked like my leather and denim jacket. They weren’t quite what I was looking for.

I wanted something a little different. And then as usual one popped up on Topshop, pink (of course) which is perfect for Spring. I know that I can style it with more than say a check pattern. With the help of a friend or two I eventually decided to keep this one, after ordering a couple. thank you Rach and Kate.

Why is the Shacket great? Because it’s practical and looks so good. I’ve chosen to wear it oversized as I want to wear it with jumpers, a blazer, a dress, a skirt. In essence it’s replacing my big winter coats at a point where they’re a little too warm – and it looks great with a hat. I oversized mine to a size 12, I’m usually a 10. It might feel too big for some but I wanted it to be comfortable whereas the 10 looked more like a blazer rather than the relaxed fit of a jacket.

As long as you keep in mind that it’s a layer I don’t think you can go wrong. And depending on the colour its so versatile. I kept things simple for my first outing. Testing the water on how it felt really. I went for my new balance trainers, leather leggings, a hoody, my cable knit hat and my crossover body bag to keep it together in the wind. It was such a comfortable outfit. I can’t wait to wear it like this again.

I’ve been searching Instagram for #Shacket outfit inspiration. Of course. I even found myself in there! And after trying some outfits on I can see myself styling it with a midi and maxi dress, my leather mini skirt and tee, denim jeans and a jumper. It will look great with my chunky boots. I think the possibilities are endless. Where do you look for inspiration? I’ve added a few favourites below if you’re considering investing in one. Let me know!

There’s a definite 90s vibe to it isn’t there. It’s a great casual look on you. I don’t think the straight lines would do me any favours though if I’m honest.
