Wardrobe Edit: Autumn/Winter

Winter wardrobe changeover done. It’s time to embrace layers, cosy knits and lazy Sunday afternoons. It feels good.

I did it.  A couple of weekends ago I spent a glorious few hours on a rainy Saturday afternoon de-cluttering my summer wardrobe. Whilst the boys were watching a friend play football I went in. I scooped up my summer clothes, boxed away my sandals and embraced the change. I’d probably say it’s my favourite wardrobe changeover. Although I may have said that about Spring and it definitely takes a little longer than expected.

And so with a cup of tea in hand I went in.

Over the years I’ve grasped the notion of having a good old rummage. Picking out all of my jumpers, boots and outfits I loved wearing the year before. Piecing outfits together is one of my favourite pastimes, does anyone else do that? I’m a planner that’s for sure. A good old de-clutter is good for the soul.

I like to do this before I get all excited. Excited for all the Autumn/Winter fashion that just keeps appearing in all my favourite stores. It’s good on the clothes budget and it stops me from buying something similar. And so with my suitcase at the ready I packed away my summer clothes and boxed up my sandals. I know some people just put them to the back of their wardrobe whereas I like to separate my wardrobes and hide them away. Once I go, I’m all in. Autumn/Winter here I come.

Here are 3 tips for planning your Autumn/Winter wardrobe:

Plan to de-clutter your wardrobe before you start to go shopping for new pieces

Look for gaps in colour and style – add pieces that compliment your current wardrobe

Take a look back through your camera roll, look at outfits you’ve worn and loved. I create an album called ‘Outfits’

What’s not to love about the colours at this time of year? I love that it is acceptable to wear a jumper over everything in my wardrobe. Jeans, leather trousers, skirts, dresses. I’d probably say I wear more colour at this time of year than any other. This year I’ve really looked for the gaps and tried not to indulge. I’m being practical. I’m wearing my wardrobe. And only buying pieces that I know will see me through the next few months. I’ve added a few of my recent style loves to my Wardrobe page.

What do you love about fashion at this time of year?
