Swim Fun Holiday Club with GUST Swim School – Review

As I write these words I can’t quite believe that we are already at the start of week five of the summer holidays. Where has the time gone? It doesn’t feel like two minutes ago that I was sat writing this post all about why I don’t look forward to the summer holidays.

Looking back over the last five weeks I don’t know why I was so worried. It’s places like GUST that have made the holidays far less stressful for all of us. It’s places like GUST that have ensured George has really enjoyed his summer holidays. Having sessions like the Swim Fun Holiday Club to look forward to as well as down days with Nanny and Granddad.

One of the biggest struggles we have is settling George into a club when he doesn’t have any friends to share the day with. It’s daunting for him, I understand so we have to choose carefully.

As we have swam with GUST for more than 4 years I felt confident in leaving him. He was excited as soon as he heard they had opened a Swim Fun Club and that he could go along to a session. It didn’t matter that he would’t have any friends there. He knows the environment, the staff are all so friendly and supportive. He was so excited. He loves to swim. More so a fun swim with inflatables! The excitement was at an all time high!

What a great idea. I have never come across a holiday club like this before. We usually send George to sports clubs and football clubs so it’s great to have something different to offer him. It feels like a unique offering. And as it’s held at GUST’s Centre of Excellence the setting is truly fantastic. They have brilliant facilities; two indoor pools, both an indoor and outdoor area for activities as well as state of the art changing rooms. And George’s favourite – a vending machine filled with treats!

What does a day at GUST’s Swim Fun Club look like?

The holiday club runs during the summer holidays. Currently operating across 3 days. You can attend on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 am- 4 pm. The team at GUST hope for this to continue through each half term/end of term holiday period. Priced at £30 per child, per day.

Each week will take on a different theme that all activities are based around. George’s day involved a Sports Theme which was a huge plus for him. Each day includes an hour of swimming – where there will be races, jumping on inflatables and learning other water based sports.

They’ll also be given the opportunity to learn basic first aid and life skills, take part in indoor games, competitions, reading and crafts. As well enjoy the new outdoor garden area.

What did George think of the day?

I had a BRILLIANT day Mummy.

These were the words that came spilling out of his mouth as I walked through the door. So much so that he didn’t want to leave. What did he love? He enjoyed the fact that it was a free swim session in the morning with inflatables and that I left him money for the vending machine. He also enjoyed the fact that he learned how to play hangman. What didn’t he love? That 4 pm arrived far too quickly. Seriously, he gave the holiday club a glowing report.

What does my child need to bring to a GUST holiday club?

Swim gear including a towel, clothing to change in to. Snacks, Lunch and a drink. A layer of clothing for the outdoor area – weather permitting. Suncream and sun hat. Money for the vending machine (optional). And lastly, bags of energy.

How to book a GUST holiday club?

It’s as simple as giving the team a call on 01785 817 534 – you can also message them on Facebook or Twitter. The holiday club is aimed at children aged 4-11. There are 10 spaces per day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays during the six-week summer holiday. The team will be more than happy to answer any of your questions.

After swimming with GUST for more than 4 years it goes without saying that we highly recommend the swimming School. The Swim Fun Holiday Club is a great addition to their offering, setting themselves a part from their competition. As well as a holiday club that truly benefits the health and well being of the children. It’s a thumbs up from our little family.
