The slip dress. A classic in so many ways yet recently it has once again evolved. I am so excited. This will be my dress or dresses of 2019. In previous years a maxi or midi, in 2019 a slip dress – in all its glory. I cannot wait to style it. I love that it’s chic, minimalist, has the ability to be edgy, casual for day, and a little elegance for night. In so many colour ways. For a wedding or a trip to the shops.
Is the slip dress, the new LBD? I’ll let you into a little secret, I never was a fan of an LBD. You? I never really liked that trend. The slip dress I can buy into – over and over again. I hope that by the end of this post – you’ll be able to see how classic a slip dress is. And invest in your own. Top tip – be sure to try it on in the shops. The fabric isn’t very forgiving and one to try on for sure. I sized up.
I love that this style of dress partners so well with all of my favourite footwear – a trainer, a Chelsea boot, a sandal. Any dress that can go from day to night, casual to elegant just by mixing it up has my vote. It’s a keeper. With a dollop of imagination and scrolling through Pinterest (of course) I have pulled together some looks which I am really excited to share with you.
Team things with it. Think layers. Think contrasting colours and fabric. If you don’t like your upper arms maybe a shirt tied at the waist or a cardigan. A roll neck. A belt to give you that shape. A blazer (I can’t wait to try it this way), a cosy jumper for right now, and a tee – which is how I wore it when I met up with friends last weekend. That’s definitely me.
Could the slip dress be the new LBD? And so I leave you with a collection of images of how I would style a slip dress. Which will you try?

I love this look on you, KA! I’ve never thought of wearing a slip dress but if I did, it would probably be the way you styled it with a snug t-shirt underneath. I like the look with a long, oversized jumper but being petite, that look doesn’t really suit me. xx
Thank you. There are so many versions of the dress that’s why I love them so so much. So versatile and worn all through the year really
I’ll be honest I’m not a fan of a slip dress on me. But I never thought of wearing them with other things as daft as that sounds! Love the idea of trying it with a shirt tied at the waist, or under a jumper – those I could maybe get on board with.
I think it’s all about experimenting, slip dresses come in so many different forms. I love layering with say a denim shirt
This is a great look on you KA. Every time I try it on me, it doesn’t quite look the same. Maybe, I’ve just not fount the right dress? I’ll carry on looking.
Thanks lovely, have you tried the different lengths? And colour is so important x
