Eating out as a family at Capello Lounge {Review}

A sign of a great restaurant is a tiled floor right? This time last week our gorgeous boy was sitting his Year 2 SATs and what better way to distract him than a little mid week treat – and so when the lovely team over at Capello Lounge asked if we would like to try out their new menu we jumped at the chance. Mr H and I were most looking forward to the tapas and George, well as soon as he saw that two of his favourite puddings were on the dessert menu there was no stopping him.

Heading out for food mid week isn’t our usual style, we generally stick to a military style precision routine until the weekends but as George had been under some pressure at school this meal came just at the right time. He deserved a little treat. We all popped something nice on and skipped out the door. I don’t know who was more excited, George for being able to order a chocolate brownie or Mr H and I for there being no dishes!

What can I tell you about Capello Lounge... I love the setting, the décor and layout. A really spacious restaurant with a good mixture of formal tables as well as comfy sofas. As a family I don’t like to feel like we’re taking over too much space but often we do what with having a little one with us, and sometimes noisy so it was nice to feel like we had our own area. We have visited a few times over the years, whether for family meals, cocktails with friends or for breakfast on a weekend but this was the first time where I truly felt like they were trying to entertain families.

The table we were given had some really great arts & crafts set up on it, straight away George coloured & decorated masks for us all. It was the perfect activity to keep him entertained whilst we waited for our food to arrive – which can often be the hardest part when dining out as a family. Capello usually have a really good children’s corner but often the games don’t interest George or are aimed at younger children, whereas arts & crafts are a huge tick! Great idea.

Now let me tell you about the food…

We had a really lovely meal. The restaurant offers such a good selection for little ones, George was spoilt for choice which we often find isn’t the case. With the addition of a tapas selection too I really do love the kids menu. Mr H and I tested out the tapas menu which was really great, we love tapas but rarely find somewhere that has something a little different. We LOVED the super green salad option, and oh my goodness the squid, the halloumi fritters and lets not forget the macaroni cheese. Oh yes the mac n cheese. On a serious note if you’re struggling for choice then I would highly recommend the super green salad – a game changer. It was so nice to see something that wasn’t meat based. The desserts were pretty great too.
