How is your week going? I don’t know about you but I’m starting to feel a little tired of all this wind, rain and snow. I am ready for Spring now, Winter be gone. For the first time this year the weather is starting to affect my mood and I for one am determined to shift it. I managed to get myself through January, although it is my birthday month so in all honesty it flies by and full of celebration. I always approach a new year with fresh eyes, an opportunity to make some subtle changes or even take on a new challenge – and lets not forget book a holiday! Customary for January. As February arrived I had high hopes for the prospect of Spring arriving, blue skies and the return of pink to my wardrobe. All of the pink.
February seems to be so much harder than January for me, don’t get me wrong I don’t feel sad but the weather is definitely having an affect on my mood. Dare I say I may have been a little grumpy these last few days – hence playing with flowers, backdrops & my camera on Sunday for an hour. I needed a little me time after our family walk was ruined by a hail storm. And so I am choosing to be optimistic – it feels better. And I am writing down a few of the little things I am looking forward to, they say that when you write these little notes down they become a little more accountable. Here goes…
February half-term…
Next week can’t come soon enough for our little family, I only wish Mr H was taking some time off with us. Sadly I’m not able to take the full week with our gorgeous boy, I am hoping to have a super long weekend and return to work on Wednesday, fingers crossed that happens as I am really looking forward to 4 lazy days together. Although I am sure our days will be filled and actually it won’t really feel like a break at all but isn’t that what half terms are all about? So far we have a pottery painting session and tubing planned for Monday followed by tea & cake of course. I think we’ll also surprise Mr H on his lunch break too and grab some food together or even a picnic in our car if the weather fails us. Only one more work day.
Holidays…
Aloha. Long summer days, lazy beach days eating paella and drinking Sangria. For me January is synonymous with booking a holiday. All over social media I saw holidays being booked, folk longing for something to look forward to. Is anyone else really craving that glorious feeling of sunshine on your skin? Until two years ago we hadn’t holidayed outside of the UK – our last trip was our honeymoon in 2011 before George arrived a few months later. We chose to holiday in the UK for the first 4 years – for the most part the weather was kind to us although there is nothing quite like waking to guaranteed blue skies, warm sunshine and a different culture. It felt like such a treat taking George to Spain that first year and oh my goodness do we have the bug – we flew out to Spain again last year and already I am looking forward to two weeks in Espana in August, only 184 days to go. Don’t get me wrong we will always explore the UK, we have two long weekends booked in Whitby and the Peak District which I am really looking forward to and our first cottage holiday in Cornwall with friends. As much as I am looking forward to our UK breaks it is our summer holiday in Spain which has me the most excited. Do you have any holidays planned?
Watching Jessie Ware…
A few month’s ago Mr H treated us to tickets to watch the rather talented Jessie Ware in concert which we’re both really looking forward to. Its actually turned into a night away in a hotel for us both to celebrate Mr H’s birthday which is definitely on the list of something to look forward too. In the last three years, maybe a little more we have both made an effort to make more time for each other. Whether that’s a simple date night at home, a trip to the cinema, drinks & food or a treat such as a night away like this one – they all are welcomed with open arms. It is so important to remember who came first in your relationship, don’t get me wrong our gorgeous boy is a product of that love but it is so easy to forget who you were before parenthood.
Spring arriving and bare ankles…
Need I say more? February arrived with a blue sky and the joys of Spring and despite the weather drastically changing overnight that feeling of a new season approaching really does fill me with hope, of wearing sparkly skirts and enjoying garden picnics. Wearing sandals, baring my ankles and leaving behind the hats and scarfs is definitely something to look forward to. I have so many midi dresses that I picked up in the Boxing Day sales that need to see some light, they need rescuing from my wardrobe and I need to wear them. Also, I always find that all the high street stores bring out their Spring/Summer ranges in February which only builds my levels of excitement for warmer days. Roll on Spring.
Getting beach ready…
This is huge on my priority list right now and something I am really looking forward to. I need to feel better in my own skin, I took a break from exercise between September and Christmas and since then I haven’t felt as comfortable and lost the definition in my arms. And so I have returned to regular circuit training and generally moving more each day. Partly because Mr H signed us up to Vitality Health Life Insurance as well as wanting to look and feel better. As part of our policy we have a weekly exercise target, if we hit it we earn our benefits – a Starbucks coffee (yes you read right) and cinema tickets which we have all enjoyed making use of. As I’m regularly achieving my points I’ve taken the next step on the policy and chosen to get an Apple Watch, yes it means my target is much much higher but in all honesty I am the type of person who needs something to work towards and with them releasing a rose gold and pink version I just had to – and of course there is nothing more satisfying than hitting that magic number. Yes I know, I am a marketers dream!
And that’s it from me, a little update which I hope to come back again and share with you in a few months. What little things are you looking forward to?
Ooh you watch is so lovely and yes I am so looking forwards to spring and blue skies I cant wait, I find February the hardest month as I am just longing for lighter nights and sunshine now x
Thank you love, I do like it so much and can’t wait to personalise. Its strange how Feb is affecting me more than January x
What a great post idea, I feel so down in the dumps at the moment and this has sparked me into thinking of making my own list to keep focussing on.
I am not the biggest fan of summer but I certainly would like it to be Spring. Hope you have a wonderful half term x
Aww thanks I am so glad it has been well received, I just thought I needed to do something about being a little grumpy and this definitely helped. Do let me know if you write one x
I completely agree – it’s SO important to have something to look forward to. Not to wish away the time or forget to be in the present, but just having that little promise of even more fun on the horizon. We booked a holiday too and I can’t wait. I’m also looking forward to blossom and green leaves on the trees. Enjoy your time with George over half term 🙂
I love having things to look forward to. We’re very lucky to have so much in the diary this year x
I couldn’t agree more, I’m am so so so over this dull and cold weather! Friday and Saturday were just beautiful, it almost felt like Spring was on it’s way but today we’re back to this horrible wet weather, which is really not good for my spirit. I’m definitely craving some warmth and sunshine on my face!! Note to self: Book a holiday for next Feb half-term!!
Thankfully its starting to brighten up here, especially for the weekend which fills me with hope. We want to go away for October half-term as last year was awful watching folk go away x
