My favourite Sunday’s are those where the day begins slowly, when the sky is blue and the sun shines brightly through my window as day breaks. There’s an autumn glow around at the minute which always makes me smile – and the thought of those winter morning frosts with crunchy leaves under foot fills me with so much joy. There’s nothing quite like wrapping up and heading out with a coffee for a little walk. Blowing away the cobwebs and enjoying all the little conversations that don’t always happen on a week day because life moves at such a fast pace. As a busy working mummy, where week days run by military precision what I enjoy most about a weekend at this time of year is enjoying life at a slower pace.
A weekend just like the last one is high on my list for my most favourite way to spend a Sunday. You know when you just need to re group, take some time for yourself, catch up on the little things and escape routine. A Sunday where the day starts with a little lie-in, snuggles and a cosy cup of something hot in bed and a full fat breakfast of pancakes, crispy bacon and syrup. Yes, high on the list of things I need to repeat right the way through this colder snap. Does anyone else feel like they want to hibernate? At least for the first few hours of a Sunday.
Quickly followed by us heading out for a walk around the lake at Trentham Gardens, which second to the beach is our little family happy place. Wrapped up in our winter woollies with a stop off for hot chocolate at the half way point and if we’re lucky a fish finger sandwich with lashings of butter and tomato ketchup from the cafe as we come out of the trees at the other end. It’s the perfect stop off point, to look out over the lake – a stunning view on a bright day where life really does come to a stand still. Stomping around Trentham is our new Sunday morning ritual and if truth be told I cannot wait to do it all over again this coming weekend. We’re actually off to do their Elf Adventure this weekend so I am certain that we will be feeling all festive afterwards.
Weekends are so precious, a little concentrated family time together whether we’re off on an adventure or pottering around the house. I can hand on heart say that we all look forward to our weekends, more so the ones where we have fewer plans at this time of year. I love these days so much, cocooned in our little family bubble is the best place to be. This is why it is so necessary to have a haven, a place where time goes by at nature’s pace, a place where you can unwind, a place where you can let your imagination roam free and most important to me, a place I can make memories with my family. As a family we are most definitely creatures of habit with the occasional bit of spontaneity thrown in to mix it up a little. I’m all for routine and adding a walk around the lake on a Sunday morning feels like the right amount of repeativeness.
Gorgeous pics KA! These are more like summer than (very nearly) winter!! So lovely. And nice to see Trentham too!! It’s always nice to see places I know so well on other people’s blogs!! And I agree — weekends are so precious aren’t they? 🙂 xx
Thanks sweetie, oh we adore Trentham. Having our annual passes means we can enjoy it even for just an hour x
Oh I love this!! I’ve actually been thinking the same thing recently – we’ve had a few Sunday with nothing to do and we’ve stuck in a little routine where we’ll get up and have a lazy breakfast with cartoons followed by a family walk and a stop of at the shop on the way back to get cookie or doughnuts before we curl up with a film and hot chocolate. It makes me so happy to just have a relaxed day with the boys. I agree with you, we are creatures of habit here too and sometimes it’s nice to revisit the happy places. Such gorgeous photos of your chilled out day, it looks prefectly Autumnal xx
Aww I am so glad you think so and have been doing similar. We have really enjoyed adding a new routine in but one which feels so lovely and not say a big day out but includes something we all enjoy x
Oh I’m so with you on this KA, I am also a creature of habit and love nothing better than a sunny walk with a coffee stop on the way. And fish finger sandwiches are The Best. Have you tried a fish finger wrap? Yummy! Love your new look site btw. xx
I love walking around the lake at Trentham, though the girls are rarely as keen (they prefer the adventure playground). I’ve seen the Elf Adventure advertised o their website – it looks fun! Hope you have a lovely time.
Its the perfect Sunday treat for sure. The Elf Adventure was super, much fun for littles indeed
Sundays are the best!! We have a fairy hectic Saturday morning with clubs and running around the place… but Sundays are for doing nothing, or should I say whatever we want! These pictures are so beautiful KA, I love the contrast of the blue sky and the autumn colours on the tree and ground. Lovely!!!
I’m really appreciating them lately. I think with every other day being filled with so much its nice to appreciate the little things and thank you sweetie although I think its the landscape and not my photography! x
Oh this kind of weekend is so dreamy and one that I wish we had more often. My favourite Sundays now are the same as the ones I remember as a child, church in the morning followed my a roast dinner, a walk and then relaxing in front of the fire watching TV or playing a game. Our weekends are often dictated by swimming commitments and volunteering at church now so slow weekends are even more precious when we get them. Gorgeous post and pics xx
I am with you Morgana, Saturdays are very much lessons and catching up so Sundays are definitely returning to a day of rest unlike most of this year. I think it is the time of year which has dictated it x
