Well on the one hand December didn’t quite work out as planned, on the other it was pretty magical indeed. As the month started so did the bugs, our gorgeous boy was rushed into hospital with a horrid cough, croup really is nasty and quite scary during the night. Thankfully after five days of bedrest, juggling work diaries, cancelling after school clubs and missing nativity practice for the boy, he was finally back on his feet. Seeing him struggle so much was really upsetting, I’m just so grateful for how fantastic the hospital were with him.
Thankfully by the Sunday we were all feeling much better and the excitement started to build for the most magical trip of the year. We were off to Disneyland Paris and oh my goodness it was the perfect way to end the build up to the big day. We made so many wonderful memories and captured some truly beautiful moments. I was quite surprised by how different it is visiting the park at Christmas time to when we visited last year during the summer time. I’ll be writing up some tips at some point as there are a few things to look out for. It is safe to say that I would absolutely recommend making a festive trip, if not only to see how the castle sparkles at night and all the festive decorations.
We have introduced some really lovely traditions to our little family Christmas time and I feel so overwhelmed with love for our gorgeous boy and how he really embraced them this year. I think this was the best year yet for how he reacted to the words ‘he’s been’ and I am already excited for the year ahead. It felt like he was there, do you know what I mean? Really in the magic, with so much excitement inside – enough to light the street.
The squeals were of epic proportion this year with a phrase repeated several times which I will remember forever ‘yes, this is what I always wanted’ and Lil G looking up the chimney and saying ‘thank you Santa for all my presents’. And whilst he doesn’t know that it is actually mummy and daddy who pick out all of his presents, wrap them and eat Santa’s mince pie – I am happy to keep it this way for a few more years yet. I am hoping we all get to live out primary school before some of the magic disappears as honestly it really is my favourite time of the year.
I am so glad that we ventured out a little over the festive period, on the one hand it was so nice to relax and very much needed after our trip to Disneyland. On the other hand taking a little walk out to get some fresh was just what we all needed after indulging on all the Christmas trimmings. The weather was absolutely beautiful and certainly made for some rather magical scenery. Jack Frost displayed a beautiful bed of white crystals which glistened for as far as the eye could see.
There is no greater joy than seeing the world though a child’s eyes, being together truly is the most wonderful place to be and I am so glad that there are a few more days to enjoy together before routine, work and school returns. The 6am alarm on Tuesday really is going to hurt.
Our Christmas Eve and Boxing Day were both as magical as the big day, I am so glad that we stretch our little family Christmas over three days. I hope you have all had a magical Christmas and a wonderful start to the new year. With love from our little family to yours.

It sounds wonderful and Disney looks incr dibble – I should have know they’d really go to town on the decorations. And I’m with you on the Tuesday alarm; I’m going to try to stay in denial about the whole thing until the last possible moment!
That’s a great plan Carie, denial denial denial. The decorations at Disney were so beautiful, nothing was missing, everywhere you looked there was something so magical to look at. Happy new year x
Disney at Christmas is definitely on our list of must do’s while the children still have that magic, it certainly looks amazing. and sorry about the croup experience, my eldest had it bad and ended up in hospital too and it is just so scary. x
Aww I have to say croup is something I hope we don’t experience again, certainly very scary. Yay for the magic of Disney, I do hope you get to book it one day as it really is so magical x
