As we walked around Trentham Gardens on Sunday, the sun beating down on us, with a mint choc chip ice-cream in hand I couldn’t help but lose my thoughts to a little summer holiday. Wouldn’t it be lovely to escape to a place where waking up to a bright blue sky and beautiful sunshine is without question? A place where we can pop on our sandals, sunglasses and sun hats with no winter coat and woolly hat in sight! If truth be told the last two weekends have spoilt us. As we turn a corner into Spring I am dreaming of a little sunshine and warmer temperatures, of our first family trip to a beach destination, out of the UK where we won’t be hiding from the rain.
Dreaming of sunnier destinations is the easy part. We have so many countries on our little family bucket list. Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, France and let’s not forget Thailand. The last time we visited Thailand was in 2011 where we celebrated our honeymoon. Unbeknown to us we were pregnant, Lil G at only 8 weeks old was with us. We would love to take him back one day, when he’s a little older, to explore the truly beautiful places we visited back then. But for now we are thinking of holiday destinations a little closer to home.
This year we want to spread our wings a little. We’re feeling brave and ready for new experiences. Until this year we have stayed local, holidayed in the UK whether in a hotel or on a caravan site. Lil G has loved every minute of our holidays in Wales but it’s time for something new. I’m so excited to be introducing our gorgeous boy to a beach holiday in a different country. For him to experience a new culture, different foods and lets not forget the glorious sunshine!
Where do we look? The lovely team over at Clickstay have a really superb collection of villas and apartments worldwide. We’re so excited and nervous at the same time. Excited for the adventure that lies ahead, nervous for the unknown. We’re not really a package holiday family, we would much prefer a quiet little coastal town, a place to escape, perhaps a private villa or apartment, ideally with a pool. Surrounded by locals rather than other holiday makers. Does that sound awful? Where we can spend time together as a family. We want to be far enough away from the noise but close enough to a beach, restaurants and local shops.
What would be on your list of must haves? This villa is the type of holiday we were thinking of.
You can also find travel advice and family friendly specific holidays on the Clickstay website which we found really useful. Such a great resource for newbies like us. And with our first holibobs out of the UK booked, a private apartment in Torrevieja with a pool we can now start to plan our little family summer holibob adventures. Have you been to Torrevieja? We do love the beach.

Nothing like a bit of family time away and sunshine always helps #abitofeverything
I completely agree Fiona, fingers crossed for some sun x
Sounds exciting KA. We have stayed in a villa when we have visited America but never thought about a villa for an European holiday. I am definitely dreaming of sunshine and we have just under 2 weeks till we get some in Greece x
Ooh how exciting, I hope you have a super time. We stayed in a villa in Cyprus which we loved as it was private, we’re just happier in our own company x
