A tree top adventure with Go Ape, Cannock

Go Ape!

What an adventure. Or as George said it was Gorilla-tastic.

We haven’t had a day out filled with as much fun in so long. Such fun. In truth, I don’t know why we haven’t been before as we visit Cannock regularly for a wander around the forrest. We would highly recommend it to anyone who is in two minds. I am so glad that we made our way over to Cannock Chase and took on the Junior Tree Top Adventure – perfect weather with a bright blue sky and sunshine beaming through the trees. It really is a gorgeous setting.

George was so excited to try out the course. I only wish I could be more like him. Full of excitement for walking through the trees, mastering the nets, zipping down the zip wire. Fearless. Bold. Brave. He’s an inspiration. And the reason why I gave it a go despite being so nervous.

Such a great family day out. We all came away full of excitement for the next trip. And despite being a little scared of heights myself I managed one circuit and a whizz down the zip wire before keeping my feet firmly on the ground. The zip wire was fun indeed. I watched the boys from the viewing area below and wandered around taking action shots which I guess you could say is their kind of fun and mine. It took some persuading to get George off the course. Nothing a promise of hot chocolate didn’t cure.

The team who looked after us were pretty great, reassuring and full of encouragement for when I had my wobble just a few steps in to the course. Their safety talk was aimed at all the family with George taking the lead and showing us all just how to use the equipment. It wasn’t complicated at all and certainly left you feeling in control of your safety on the crossings.

There was no stopping him on this little adventure and I love how the team picked up on this and challenged him once he had mastered the course a couple of times. They had him walking across with his hands on his head. And he loved it, giggling all the way. I love how they got involved and engaged with him as he quite literally ran around the course. His smiles were infectious. And if like me you aren’t really a fan of heights then you could sit and watch as the staff are up and down the course and always on hand to help or offer advice. Although that didn’t stop Mr H joining in.

The whole experience was a positive one. Highly recommended. A super fun family day out in such a beautiful location. We laughed, we cheered, we conquered. And despite the Junior Tree Top adventure being aimed at little ones Mr H really enjoyed the course – I’m certain George made it around in record time leaving Mr H trailing. They both have their sights on the main course which did look like a lot of fun but crikey very very high.

A few tips for you… I would recommend you taking some fingerless gloves which help to protect your hands when handling the ropes – you can purchase them at the cabin. And definitely clothes which you don’t mind getting a little grubby, it also gets a little chilly in the forrest so best to add layers which you can remove as you go. Take a picnic and head into the Forrest afterwards as there is so much to enjoy. Have fun.

We did the Go Ape Junior course at Delamere last year and my kids loved it – Ben is keen to go back and do the bigger course with Dave now!
