Sparkle and Shine with the cast of Nativity! The Musical. I can’t say that without singing it out loud. And that’s exactly what this production does to you – it leaves you singing, toe tapping, full of joy and a jaw that aches from all the laughter. Belly laughs a plenty. And not just from the super talented Simon Lipkin who plays the infamous and very crazy teaching assistant – Mr Poppy. Nativity! The Musical is genuinely one of the best shows I have seen at the Theatre. It was hilarious and utterly brilliant from the opening scenes to the standing ovation. A show for both adults and children which for me is testament to a blooming great cast, incredible directing and vision of Debbie Isitt, the creator of the much-loved films.
If ever there was a theatre production to take my George along to this is the one. He watches the first and second on repeat but if you ask him, the first will always be his favourite. It was lovely watching him look out for his favourite characters or scenes. One of those being Mr Poppy. Who doesn’t love Mr Poppy? I think I may have a little crush. Simon Lipkin – so talented and funny is by far my favourite character who brought something and more to the stage. Very quickly followed by the utterly brilliant Scott Garnham who if you closed your eyes emulated Mr Maddens in his sound and presence. Ashleigh Gray, WOW that voice – so beautiful and the dancing and cheekiness of the rest of the adult cast was mesmerising. Never have I watched a production and was impressed by every actor on stage. The child actors were of course brilliant, funny and wowed the audience with their talent, voices and pizzazz.
Something that stood out for me was the chemistry on stage between the characters. The staging itself. The aeroplane. The acting. And the one liners from Simon Lipkin – made the performance. This is a show not to be missed. It is a must see. Debbie Isitt – who has adapted this show for the stage has done what most others can’t and actually made Nativity! The Musical even better. What are you waiting for – book your tickets now. Don’t miss out on this hit show. I’m off to book Nativity Rocks – which may be because Simon Lipkin stars as Mr Poppy!
