July’s Little Loves…

July's Little Loves

Hey there, are you ok?

July’s little loves post has come around quickly hasn’t it?

And how are we nearly at the end of July? This month has been so colourful. Busy but full of so much excitement, a few end of term and Infants School tears and plans for the summer holidays. And of course the tail end of George’s birthday celebrations as well as a trip to the Lavender Meadow with the gorgeous Jenny, lots of days out making use of our Merlin Passes and slow weekends mixed in between where we have enjoyed walks and picnics at Trentham Gardens. July has been a pretty great month for our little family which has left me feeling so excited for August. Mainly because come the middle of the month we will be heading out to Espana for our summer holiday and I for one cannot wait. Sunshine, blue skies, Mojitos and tapas.

And so, here are my little loves from the month of July…

In truth not that much at all. Just my Red Mag really, of which I haven’t even scratched the surface. Life has just been super busy or should I say I’ve been prioritising different things. I’m training more, spending a lot of time meal prepping, spending so much time outdoors with the boys and generally just being a little more present. I do need to read a little more, hopefully holiday will change that for me. I’m actually look for some chick lit to read on my Kindle, do any of you have any recommendations?

I did stumble across this post ‘Facing Forwards: Why I’m Done with the Insta-Fame Game’ over on Flora Explorer which raises the issues of fakeness on Instagram. I completely understand where the girl is coming from although I just think is it really something that we need to concern ourselves with? Who’s to judge who is fake or not? I generally share the happy, the joyful, I don’t moan about George or Simon as I would hate for them to read it, yes life can be testing but by not sharing that does it make me fake? And I did struggle with the term ‘Insta-Girls’ – and found some comments a little derogatory. Why do we have to label everything? Is it really that bad that we pose for Instagram photos? I do it every week, I did it today for a brand collaboration I am working on. I’m not fake because I wear floaty skirts and have a straw hat. Don’t we all read magazines or glossy websites, looking at beautiful models or perfectly posed branding that are selling the items in the photo. We all do this right? We all buy something that someone else is promoting because isn’t that marketing? And as bloggers aren’t a lot of us doing this every day? I know I am, well not every day. Well, this is me…

My addiction with Love Island has remained strong throughout July, although Mr H may have been a little grumpy about it and cannot wait for Monday to arrive. I have definitely become a little tired of it (all the thong bikini’s), and equally drawn back in when it gets interesting. That said I’ve found it really contrived and on some occasions uncomfortable to watch.

Mr H has enjoyed binge watching Power on Netflix. I’ve seen snippets but I’m not sure about it. Apparently you need to watch it from the beginning. It just seems like another violent, drugs and alcohol type of series which really isn’t my thing. I definitely more love than war.

I also took my Mother-in-law to see Mamma Mia –  Here We’ve Go Again. I want to say that we loved it but sadly that’s not the case. I loved the first movie. Firstly I didn’t realise about my most favourite actress not being in it which massively disappointed me. I found the opening scene and those that followed that storyline well, just to a bit silly. There were bits I loved of course because it’s ABBA and I LOVE them but it’s just not Mamma Mia is it. And on top of this, which is totally just because of my situation, as someone who doesn’t have a relationship with my mother I found the end scenes really hard to watch.

Ooh I’m really enjoying my Spotify playlist at the minute, I only get a few minutes in the car of a morning and evening so I have them on repeat at the minute. I am living for the weekends when I can enjoy mixing things up in our regular kitchen disco on a Friday and Saturday evening. Here are some of my favourites lately…

Some really delicious food. I’ve been eating really healthy over the last 4 weeks and actually I am enjoying my food so much more as I don’t feel I’ll afterwards. Mainly a protein diet with a lot of veg, but also I’ve been adding lots of tasty spices and sauces to what might ordinarily be a boring meal. Sadly I don’t have any photos, mainly because as part of the healthy eating I have been fasting between the hours of 8pm and midday the next day so by the time it comes to eating I am quite literally ravenous. I feel so much better for being stricter with my diet, cutting out as many carbohydrates as I can and the wrong foods which often play up with my IBS. NO more bloating. YES!

Denim skirts, tea dresses and bardot dresses on repeat. Oh and sandals, I am completely in love with my Birkenstocks and really enjoying styling them with summer outfits. And lastly as our holiday is fast approaching I have also been accessorising with my head scarfs as well as picking up a couple of new ones from Primark and River Island.

And lastly…

We have a much needed slow weekend ahead of us mainly centred around George and his best buddy who is celebrating his 8th birthday at True Ninja. We will also be having a little celebration of our own with them afterwards in the form of a BBQ where I am sure there will be cocktails (for the grown ups of course). I have the whole day just the boy and me on Saturday which I am really looking forward to. Fingers crossed the rain doesn’t come as forecast as I really would love to enjoy another picnic and cricket game with him. I said it on my Instagram this week but sometimes it really is just the simple things that make me and him smile.

I hope you have a gorgeous month of August.

You’re the only person I know who hasn’t loved Mamma Mia 2 but I can understand what you’re saying about that final scene – it was beautiful in many ways and emotional too but so hard if your relationship with your mum is not good. I bought that Red magazine too and as you say, I haven’t scratched the surface either – you’ve reminded me to get back to it! Love those pretty orange bow sandals KA, look so gorgeous with the pink flowers 🙂 You inspire me every month to take better photographs. Thank you! xx

I think so, lots seem to have loved it but I just didn’t enjoy the flitting back and forward. Aww well I do hope you enjoy taking some photos, and what a lovely thing to say x

Sounds like you’ve had a wonderful month KA and beautiful photos! Glad to hear that changing your diet has helped you feel better, I’ve made a lot of changes to how I eat the last year or so and it’s really helped me too. I love those bow sandals, so pretty! Hope you have a wonderful August and the holiday goes well. xx

I’m off to watch Mama Mia 2 tomorrow night, I’m excited but also dreading the fact they may have ruined it if that makes sense. I love Red, it’s probably my favourite magazine these days. Your outfit photos are gorgeous as usual. Hope you’ve had a good weekend x

I haven’t seen Mamma Mia yet but I love the show and first film so I so hope I do love it. Glad the new diet is helping you, after our hols I do need to get back on the healthy eating. Although I did do a couple of classes whilst I was away. And you are so far from fake, I love your instagram it pours our love and acceptance which is what we should all be striving too. You dont have to share anything you dont want to, I would never ever call Chris or the boys on the internet xx

I LOVED the first, built it up so much. I hope you enjoy it. And thank you sweetie, I really dislike all this ‘unless you share your dirty washing you’re fake’ – its’ just rubbish.

Oh no that’s really disappointing about Mamma Mia, I haven’t been to see it yet. Not sure I will bother! I’ve been up and down over Love Island this year, its becoming more and more staged. But Jack and Dani seemed genuine and I loved them x

I think it must just be me as no-one else seems to think it. Everyone loves it. Same here re Love Island, some days I have just thought why?

The white dress is gorgeous! I love your wardrobe! Interesting on what you are saying re diet I could really do with overhauling what I eat – running from one meeting to another doesn’t do me any favours at work so I think I’m going to start there. X

Thanks so much, it is definitely a favourite over here. I’ve actually taken before and after photos today and I am so happy and impressed with the changes. x

Sounds like you have had the best balance to Summer. I love your entire summer wardrobe. Good for you for getting back to exercise routine I am desperate to get into one when I get back from holiday. It’s too hard losing it and being good while I am traveling. You always look amazing though. Can’t wait for another catch up with you soon we need to plan a date.
