SATs, Summer clothes & The Cotswolds #LittleLoves

It’s been a strange couple of weeks over here. All the joy from the sunshine, exciting plans being made for Florida next year and of course the excitement for my summer wardrobe being unpacked *inserts smiley face* and then there was George and his SATs. It doesn’t matter how many times the teachers tell me that this is something the government makes them do in Year 2 and that the children aren’t the ones being assessed they just don’t sit well with me. I just don’t understand why we have to put 6 and 7 year olds under so much pressure at such a young age. There is plenty of time for tests, for now can we just let them be children? On another note, as I write this post we are making the long journey to Cornwall and I am so excited, it’s been over 20 years since I last visited and a first for the boys. Hooray for a traditional cream tea.

I’ve really missed recording my little loves, so if you fancy catching up on the one I wrote a couple of weeks ago then I would love for you to pop over for a snoop. Heavily focussed on the sunshine filled bank holiday, wasn’t it a dream? Oh Yeah.

And so, join me in some of my little loves…

Read…

So many lovely comments, support, understanding and general love from you all on the night George told us he had had a tricky day at school. His last SATs booklet really took it out of him. In his words ‘why am I stupid Mummy?’. It broke my heart, I just couldn’t understand why my 6 year old little boy was feeling those emotions. Why at 6 is he comparing himself to others. My poor boy. It is only at school that he does this, in all sports and classes outside of school he never questions his ability. Thankfully after a sleepless night I spoke to his head teacher who explained that George hadn’t heard the teachers announce a break between the session, as he looked around all his friends had stopped working – he took this to be that he was last to finish when that wasn’t the case. The Head Teacher was really supportive and took him aside. That said I wish I had been the one to comfort him at that moment.

Watched…

A new series ‘Bloodline’ on Netflix which is about an American family in Florida Keys. We’re both hooked and totally bought into the stories of each character. There has been so many twists already. Highly recommended. And then of course the second series of 13 reasons why is back on our screens, already I am feeling so many emotions and apparently the last episode is very tough to watch.

Heard…

The news that my gorgeous boy had been awarded man of the match on Friday evening which means he gets to take the Cap on holiday with us. More photos 😂. To say he was ecstatic doesn’t quite cover it. And let’s not forget the klaxon going as the beginning of the half term holiday. Yes to a break in a little cottage with our friends, Georges best friend. How lovely is that? I’m so blooming excited.

Made…

Two things for you here. As a treat for George after his tough day at school we head out for a family meal which we wouldn’t usually do on a week day, it was such a lovely distraction – just what he needed. As was the chocolate brownie. It was a review for the blog so you can read it all here as it’s actually a chain ‘Capello Lounge‘ so you might find one near you. Really lovely setting. We made super hero masks whilst we wasted for our tasty tapas. Super cute.

And… The journey to The Cotswolds last weekend. Oh my goodness we all fell in love with the yellow stone buildings, the streets were blooming lovely (quite literally) and best of all we stayed in one of favourite spots so far this year. We were invited to stay over at Wigwam Holidays Evenlode, a gorgeous location just a few minutes from so many quaint villages and let’s not forget that hot tub. Ran by the loveliest couple who can’t do enough for you. By far my favourite of this type of accommodation we have stayed in, everything was thought of – with a shower, fully equipped kitchen and an original Scandinavia type wood fire hot tub who wouldn’t. I’ll be writing up a couple of posts about our stay on the blog soon. I had hoped to this week but time literally whizzed by. So for now a few photos.

Wore…

My summer wardrobe and George too (love him in shades and hat)…

And lastly…

Prepare yourself for some holiday spam over on Instagram and Stories this week little loves crew. I hope you all have a truly gorgeous half term, or a long weekend for those not breaking up.

I have added this post to Morgana’s #LittleLoves over on her blog Coffee, Work, Sleep, Repeat.

Gorgeous photos of the Cotswolds. I fell in love with it when we visited almost 10 years ago, we never went back as we moved abroad. Think I may have to start hinting about where to go for my birthday seeing as we’re back in England again.

Poor George fretting about his SATs. My little one will be doing them next year, although he’s doing the weird alien words thing this year – which he thinks is ‘stupid’. He takes everything very literally so doesn’t understand why his teacher asks him to spell words which don’t exist. My teen is doing her GCSEs at the moment too. Seems it’s exam season!

    Have a lovely holiday x

I really love that photograph of you and your boy in the hot tub, KA, and what a view! You’ve been really spoilt with the weather on trips away recently haven’t you? I think SATs are ridiculous, pitting children against one another and testing them at such a young age is so unnecessary. xx

I have absolutely loved seeing all your beautiful photos of your sunny weekends away-only a little jealous honest. Completely with you on testing kids so young and I am glad to hear that George got reassured and you too. I love my boys in summer clothes too-they look like such dudes! Have a wonderful week in cornwall x
