Blue skies and beach days…

Life is better with sandy toes. Oh bank holiday weekend you were blooming lovely, when adulting gets tough all you need is vitamin sea, to switch off and truly immerse yourself in family time. And despite bringing back a car full of sand with us, long weekends at the beach are always my favourite. A time to relax, slow down, feel the sand in between your toes and exchange salty kisses. A long weekend feels like a real treat doesn’t it? And with no agenda we made the spontaneous decision to escape to St Annes, Lytham. We haven’t been as yet this year, it really is a beautiful part of the coast line with a gorgeous sandy seafront and traditional Pier – if only we were blessed with more sunshine we wouldn’t need to be anywhere else.

Happiness comes in waves and there is no place I’d rather be than by the seaside. We all feel the same. For the first time in forever we all walked out to sea together, usually I am left care taking all the beach ball games, towels and bag whilst the boys disappear – you see at St Annes beach the sea is at least one or two miles out and so you can find yourself walking at least 30 minutes to reach the water. Worth it though, and there’s always the conversation on the way, meeting Mr Crab and collecting shells. It’s the little things. And I love the smiles it brings.

A few family snaps…

St Annes beach is so so lovely, it will always have a special place in our hearts – one of the first places we think of when the sun shines and never disappoints. Mr H would drive to St Annes just to eat the Fish & Chips from the Seafarers Restaurant whereas for me it is for the open space and sea air. There’s nothing quite like the sound and smell of the seaside.

St Anne’s beach is so vast and depending on where you sit you could be in a world of your own, I love that feeling – of escapism. Bliss. I enjoy visiting during the winter as at times you can have the beach all to yourself. George is always drawn to the pier and ruin just a little walk out to sea, forever exploring and lets not forget kicking a ball. In one way we enjoy all the fun that comes with the beach and then there’s the quiet moments, where we just sit, take it all in and talk. I’ve said it before but I love the conversation days like this bring.

This is the life. And to round off our trip we stay in the gorgeous St Anne’s Beach Apartments which are truly scrumptious. So luxurious and homely. Such a perfect location, with the beach literally a few steps away, the comfiest beds, gorgeous decor and oh my goodness the view. And let’s not forget all the little details which only special people could think of. The welcome pack, the flowers and a huge smile. These apartments have been made from the heart. The accommodation is family friendly, extremely convenient when holidaying in St Anne’s, Lytham or Blackpool and I simply cannot recommend them highly enough. On our latest trip we stayed in No6 High Tide, my new favourite.

It’s weekends like these that I’m glad I record all the little moments. That I’m inspired to share them with you on my blog and Instagram. I don’t share everything but I couldn’t resist these blue skies. I love so much that I have them, little squares of pure happiness, precious family memories amidst busy schedules. Of watching my boys play all the ball games, of capturing a feeling, an emotion, love and so much joy. People often ask me why I bother to take so many photos or with blogging and Instagram, quite simply it started as an online journal and despite all the opportunities in between it will always be my online journal. That is all.

And so, a final note to my boys. I’ll always remember this weekend, a sunny bank holiday spent in Lytham. The conversation, the sandy toes and salty kisses, the wine, the laughter, the sunset and that view as the day broke. Enjoy the little things because one day you will look back and realise they were the big things.

I hope you all had the loveliest of weekends.

* Disclosure – we were gifted accommodation by the lovely Stuart & Zoe. It has been so lovely to get to know them over the years. Very special people with family at the heart of everything they do.

Oh my goodness, those beach huts sound like the perfect getaway! Can you take your dog on the beach at this time of year? What an incredible weekend you had weather-wise! Pics look amazing. xx

It was the perfect weekend to be in Lytham, the sun and the heat was incredible! Unfortunately we spent most of ours tag teaming at a swimming meet in Blackpool. I love the look of the apartment and the beach huts, I keep meaning to book one of their beach huts for a day in the summer hols! xx

Oh it was, we were so lucky. Oh crikey that’s a tough call on such a lovely weather weekend. We try to keep the weekend free of sporting activities but I guess it isn’t always possible with a future Olympic swimmer 🙂 x

It looks like you had a really wonderful weekend and it sounds like it was just what you needed. I think we’re going to need to take a trip up there at some point – those sand dunes and the pier and the huge amount of space look idyllic. The place you stayed looks gorgeous too – if they sleep a family of five/six we’ll definitely be keen to use them for accommodation. Lovely photos as always – you were certainly blessed with great weather!
