It’s that time of the year when our thoughts turn to making plans, specifically where our little family will venture to on our travels in 2018. I always find this time of year so exciting, flicking through a magazine, searching for that perfect haven you can call home for a few days. You see I’m a touchy feely type person and like to think choosing a holiday is like finding the perfect cosy knit, one where you can wrap yourself up in on a cold winters day and escape to somewhere magical. We are already very lucky to have one summer holiday booked, we’re heading back to an area in Spain we know and love, one that allows us to relax and explore and feel truly disconnected from everyday life, of work and school and everything in between. But, as it’s our third year returning to the same spot and accommodation which isn’t bad at all we are all craving somewhere new – the excitement of exploring new beaches, restaurants and towns – finding hidden gems that we can then recommend to our friends, family and beyond.
Over the years our idea of the perfect holiday has somewhat changed, gone are the days of lazing by the pool for hours on end with a good book and well a cocktail of course. I say that because our little family became just that in 2011 a little family of three. Since then we have had a little person to consider, who goes by the name George and shares our passion for going on an adventure. For exploring and finding somewhere new, for taking in new surroundings, trying something new and returning to the best bits before its time to pack up and return home.
Until two years ago we hadn’t holidayed outside of the UK – our last trip was our honeymoon in 2011 before George arrived a few months later. We travelled around the Thai Islands for a month and oh my goodness did we fall in love with Thailand. Its that feeling of falling in love with your surroundings that excites me about choosing a holiday. We chose to holiday in the UK for the first 4 years as I just didn’t have the faith in trusting a website or truly knowing if the destination or hotel could really cater for the type of holiday we crave. I wanted someone to talk to, someone who understands me and our little family. You see we love to explore little towns, find authentic restaurants, really take in the culture of our surroundings, go off the beaten track and find these hidden gems often unseen. You know, really feel like you have been immersed in a Spanish Village or Italian family. Where you feel like you have become a part of where you are staying.
Personally I don’t feel that you find this from a faceless website. Which brings me nicely to Simpson Travel, from that first moment when you load their website to their Instagram page and beyond you feel immersed. A part of their story, the family behind it and their passion for finding you a handpicked holiday perfect for your little family. One that caters for all your needs, whether thats a pool, a haven in the middle of a small village or a huge complex. Is anyone else really craving that glorious feeling of sunshine on your skin?
And lastly… Family is my favourite six letter word, and to me being a family means spending quality time together, creating memories and looking back on all the little things that have made you smile. I love photography which you can see here on my blog or over on my Instagram feed, Mr H loves exploring and our gorgeous boy loves the beach oh and ice cream. You can read more about us here. Here are a few of our favourite memories from our adventures in 2017 and if you’d like to some of our short films from our monthly adventures then you can find them here…
I hope you have enjoyed my post, my thoughts on family travel and my memories from our summer 2017. This is a post I have written as part of my entry to be one of two lucky bloggers to become a Simpson Travel Ambassadors. Wish me luck #SimpsonTravelFamily.
