For the girl who doesn’t wear heels…

Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world. Said Marilyn Munroe and definitely a mantra I want to adopt in 2018. I have officially made this year all about footwear, last year may have been coats and most definitely the midi skirt whereas this year I want to add trainers to that list. And so far I don’t seem to be doing too badly, what with Christmas and my birthday already passing I have two new sparkly pairs and I am so excited to style them throughout the year. I’ll never turn my back on a trench coat, a floral midi dress or pleated skirt and I’m certain I can style all of these with a pair of trainers. And so, in the words of Mr H I don’t need to go shopping anytime soon but we all know that that won’t happen!

Some women obsess over a pair of heels, I remember longing for a pair of Manolo Blahnik’s after becoming obsessed with Carrie in Sex & The City. I did so for years but in all honesty I have never found heels comfortable, yes they elongate your legs and well generally make an outfit but they just don’t excite me anymore. For years I have lusted over ballet pumps alike and more recently comfort wins over a pair of heels I can’t walk in, although if someone wants to buy me a pair of blue sparkly Manolo’s I may ignore the pain. For me the trainer thing it is a trend which I am happy to be getting on board with, albeit I am a little late to the party as it massively hit the streets in 2016 & 17, the trainer of all things.

I think the culture of women wearing trainers for fashion and not just for the gym is ever growing. Up until last year I was one of those girls, that was until I purchased my first pair of converse in 2016 – I loved how they quickly transformed my floral print dress and a denim jacket – I have Alex from The Frugality to thank for that. I love her style so much and it would seem that we share a love for a floral midi dress and a sparkly skirt! So much so that throughout 2017 I longed for a pair of crisp white trainers or even a colourful pair to add something else to an everyday outfit. I never quite took the plunge despite lusting over some of my favourite Fashion Bloggers showcasing them with all of my favourite outfits.

They go with everything, you can play with colours and textures and you can make heads turn with your relaxed style which until recently I didn’t think was possible. And more importantly they are so blooming comfy – I only wish I had realised sooner for when we were in Disney over Christmas. Mr H popped these gold Reebok Classics in my Christmas box and if truth be told at first I was a little unsure how to style them, that was until I picked up this trench coat in the Zara sales and lets not forget the cosy pink knit from Topshop. I may just wear this outfit on repeat. What was that I said about not shopping? In fairness they were Boxing Day buys and all in the sale, that’s allowed right? This is my new favourite look – trench coats, backpacks and trainers. Not only practical, comfy and on trend – they’re also perfect for walking around the lake at Trentham Gardens on a Sunday morning.

Over the festive and new year break my birthday came and went and so did another pair of trainers, I have been very lucky for footwear and clothing this year. I chose them this time and went for a pair of crisp white Stan Smiths with a little bit of pink on them. Ones I have wanted for so long and even managed to get them in the sale. I styled them with straight leg jeans and a blazer and even one of my favourite midi skirts layered with a cosy knit. I think I may have found my new uniform, well that is until Spring arrives.

If you’d like to look at a few more of my style loves then do pop over to a new page I have added to my blog. And do tell, are you a trainers or heels fan?

I’m a bit of both to be honest, I love my flats and heels in equal measure although for practical reasons I wear my flats a lot more now. Love the gold classics xx

Yeah I’m the same although predominantly found in flats with the occasional heeled boot

When I was a teenager and in my very early 20s, I wouldn’t have been seen dead in a pair of flats. I didn’t even own a pair, all my shoes were heels. Now it’s the opposite. I do own heels, but can rarely be bothered to wear them. They make me walk like an idiot, if I’ve had a few drinks, I tend to fall over in them and to top it off they hurt like buggery. Nah, I’m much happier in a pair of flat boots nowadays … does this mean we’re getting old? Xx

Same here, I always went for heels despite them hurting so much. I think we’re just wise, definitely not old! x

Being 5ft 2 and having a husband of 6ft 3 I used to live for heels, except having bad hips I was never a match made in heaven and since the girls I am mostly a flats kind of girl, any kind of walking and I’m in a trainer too! X

I can imagine heels are your best friend!

If I could go shoe shopping and buy everything and put it on a shelf at home just to look at I’d be very happy. I hate wearing them! I’m happiest in ballet pumps – haven’t worn trainers for years and whilst I love heels I just find them so uncomfortable, though I’d love to wear them. I quite fancy some Converse though.

Before I had kids I’d go to work every day in heels and think nothing of it, it was just what I did. Being 5″2, I needed the extra inches and to be hones they made me feel good. These days I never wear heels and whenever I do, for nights out or big events, I feel so uncomfortable and awkward. How did I do it before? I’m definitely more a flats girl these days xx

You know what I used to be the same, always in heels but now not so much and why do they always hurt? x

You look fab in your trainers and converse. I try to wear converse but they kill my feet. I am a heels or ballerina shoes girl for some reason my feet just don’t like trainers and converse they cut into the side of my wide wide feet. Yet it’s huge trend with skirts and everyone is going flat and I wish I could pull that look off it’s awesome. Even leggings with tennis I just can’t do it even though I am drawn to that look every time. These look fab on you. So sparkle and silvery to the white good to have options.

I do love adoring high heels and I buy them and then squirrel them away and live in my boots or flats, they’re just so much more comfortable.

I always look at heels and then the reality hits that I just aren’t comfortable

I’m a flats or chunky heels kind of girl. Definitely flats for the everyday though. I only wear stilettos to events like weddings and I always regret it half way through the day! I got myself a pair of classic Vans for Christmas and I’m practically living in them at the mo! x

I always have that panic when it comes to wearing heels thinking how long will it be before my feet are hurting – why do we do it to ourselves? x
