Me and Mine – A Family Portrait Project – January 2018

And just like that we find ourselves at the last day in January and hopefully the end of a really cold snap. We have seen more snow in January as well as lots of grey skies with the odd blue sky filling us with hope for Spring. Glorious sunsets filling the skies with so much colour and long shadows spreading across the field. It’s been a chilled but lovely month for our little family; filled with simple days out, a lot of relaxed time spent at home and lazy starts before heading our for a walk wrapped up in our winter warmers. The way every January should go. I feel truly rested and ready for the brighter evenings to come our way, there’s nothing quite like making my way home of an evening knowing that I will find George and Mr H out playing football on the field. Bring on snowdrops, bluebells and Spring.

Way back at the beginning of January we celebrated my birthday which was a simple day but one that made me smile; a day filled with good company, comfort food and tasty cocktails. To my surprise Mr H invited my close friend Rebecca and her family along which was a truly lovely thing to do. We ended our day with a kitchen disco and making cocktails whilst deciding on a destination for our holiday together in May. We’re off to Cornwall. Much like December we have enjoyed cosy afternoons watching movies and watching  snow falling from the bedroom window. Days where we have ventured out to pastures new and old market towns we haven’t visited for some time but will be returning to more often.

January has been a month of enjoying all the little things, time spent together wrapped up in our little family bubble, date nights as The Three Musketeers as George calls us – playing cards and joyfully losing in a bid to make our gorgeous boy smile. Little does he know that I am a sore loser. I hope for February to be very similar. And so, let me tell you about a few things we have all enjoyed in the month of January…

Mr H is loving… watching McMafia, planning our holidays for 2018, walking in The Roaches, making tasty meals from a new Joe Wicks cook book and heading out for a pub lunch on a cold Sunday.

George is loving… date nights at our local pub, watching the snowfall from mummy & daddy’s bedroom window, reading David Walliams Bad Dad, light afternoons after school and having his own login for Netflix.

And lastly I am loving… lazy weekends, finding an instagrammable cafe, getting back into my circuit training, watching George play the drums and the most beautiful sunrise on my way to the office.

A few more photo’s of our little family in January…

I took these photos on one of our family walks around the lake at Trentham Gardens right at the beginning of the month. It was a beautiful blue sky day, frost on the ground, bitterly cold and definitely a day for drinking hot chocolate. One of my favourite days in January which we have repeated most weekends just without the blue sky. I made the mistake of not taking my tripod with me, rushed the photos and sadly they were very dark when it came to looking back through them. Nonetheless they have captured a weekend that has filled my mummy heart fit to burst.

I have added this post to the #MeandMineProject over on Lucy’s blog Dear Beautiful.

Looks like a magic family walk along the lake so beautiful and happy. That blue sky you always have so jealous we are constantly dark up here which gets frustrating. Even today it’s hailing and dark again. Always makes me smile to be out in the fresh air with family. #meandmineproject

Trentham is such a great place, so much to do. I am really excited, a new place to explore. Which part are you going to?
