Christmas celebrations, Taking some time out & Who Am I #LittleLoves

Hey there my last little loves. My last look back on the week for 2017 – this time next week we will be sailing into a new year. Of all the weeks in the year of joining in with little loves I feel this is one of those weeks that I really do need to look for the little things that I have loved. It has been a week of mixed emotions, from the most magical of Christmas Eve’s and Christmas mornings to the devastation of a fire in our kitchen on Christmas Day. We are so lucky that no one was hurt however there is significant smoke damage in two rooms – we have all been left a little shaken by the fire and in all honesty it has really affected me. I have found myself struggling to sleep and sad that we have had to cancel our wedding anniversary and birthday celebrations. This year definitely hasn’t ended the way I hoped it would.

And so in an attempt to look on the positive side, grab a cuppa and a blanket for a cosy little loves…

Read…

I’d like to say a book or even a magazine but that wouldn’t be the case. I have enjoyed taking a step back and enjoying nothing other than time with family and friends. I have read the menu on a couple of occasions and enjoyed eating out due to losing the oven in the fire. I do hope the insurance company moves quickly as in all seriousness eating out is not good for my waistline.

Watched…

We all went to see the new Star Wars at the cinema on Thursday morning which was so great. We all loved it and came out so excited for what’s to come. I love that there are two main heroines left but of course this will be the last movie Carrie Fisher is in, I presume so. It was strange seeing her in a movie a whole year since her passing. As we left the cinema screen we were greeted by Kylo Ren and two Storm Troopers which George thought was amazing, he waited patiently for his turn to have a photo with them and surprised the actors with his light saber.

Heard…

The sound of laughter around the table as we played Who Am I? Such a fun game and oh my goodness did we need this on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. So much laughter – some silly words, animals and objects but yes a silly game was just what we all needed. For just a few moments it took away the upset, the worry and stress the fire was causing Mr H and I.

Made…

Christmas dinner is always a meal I take control of – the one time in the year Mr H allows me to spend in the kitchen unaccompanied and without distraction. Maybe that will change in the future. The turkey sits in a brine from a recipe I found in Nigella Lawson’s Christmas cookbook a few years ago and it never disappoints. If you have never tried it then it is definitely one for next year. Despite the fire which initially damaged one side of the oven we did manage to continue cooking, I think I went on auto pilot for a while. I also made a Churro Nutella Christmas Tree dessert for our gorgeous boy. It was a huge hit definitely one I will repeat but in a different shape.

Wore…

A new dress, a new bag and a new pair of trainers and lets not forget red sparkly nails. I have been one lucky girl this Christmas. Mr H chose the bag and trainers and I picked up the dress in the Topshop sale. Oh I do love having new bits to wear.

And lastly…

We have five more days together before returning to work, school and all the routine in between. George has missed his school friends but he also seems to have really enjoyed our time together and playing with all his new toys as well as slow starts and lots of chocolate treats. I do hope the next few days go smoothly with no surprises along the way – well, maybe one or two perhaps for my birthday.

Sadly we had to cancel our wedding anniversary and main birthday plans due to the excess required on our insurance claim. I do still hope we can manage to celebrate in some way just not as we had planned. And so, I wish you a fond farewell and safe passage into the new year. See you in 2018 little loves crew.

I have added this post to Morgana’s #LittleLoves over on Coffee, Work, Sleep, Repeat.

So pleased you’re all ok and your Christmas fun wasn’t ruined by the fire. I do my turkey like that too and you’re right it’s SO GOOD.
You look gorgeous in that wrap dress, it suits you so much. I looked at it in Topshop but don’t think I’d pull it off as well as you do.
Hope this back to work is being kind to you xx
