My favourite winter coats (including a few old ones)…

Hugging a cup of hot chocolate and feeling all warm and cosy definitely screams winter to me and with winter comes new coats. A winter coat for me is one of those key pieces that instantly updates your wardrobe and brings a heap of new outfit ideas with it. Whether its reviving an old coat with new accessories or buying new treats. Some would say I have a love affair with winter. Although I actually say that about each season, as long as they don’t find out that I am cheating on them with each other then we should be just fine.

Each winter I find myself digging out my coats from previous years, deciding whether I should invest in a new one (or three) how many I can revive and still love and which ones I should pass on. I think with a lot of the high street coats they are often seasonal hence the need to invest in new ones, or at least this is my excuse. This year I actually managed to sell five of my winter coats from 2015 and last year that I hadn’t really worn. I have hung on to my leopard print (a must for every girls wardrobe), red blazer style coat and a green trench coat I picked up in January. I’ve never really had a clear out of my coats before but actually it felt good to do so… and then go shopping of course.

This year I have mostly selected longer-line coats with a military look about them – double breasted to add to the winter warmth. The length really does help to keep you feeling all cosy. I’ve also been a little braver when it comes to adding a little colour. And that would be my first tip for 2017 be brave. Choose colour. I’m hoping the big pink teddy coat I invested in a few weeks ago will keep me warm while looking chic obviously. I’m never one to pick practicality over fashion however my recent winter buys will hopefully be a nice blend of both.

If you are looking to update your 2017 wardrobe then I would go bright or pastel. Pink is obviously THE ONE to invest in this season. I love how coats have the ability to make a statement and for me the only way is pink – if I had to choose a second it would be mustard.

With this style of coat or should I say colour you can keep what you wear underneath really basic such as a plain knit, jeans and boots or mix it up a little and add a midi dress. Either way the coat will steal the show, I do love a statement piece.

As I may have mentioned I have a love affair with winter coats, and as the colder months are upon us I find myself reaching for those cosy winter warmers such as scarfs, hats, gloves and to get me through this cold weather snap. Which brings me nicely to my most recent addition – the grey coat of dreams from Laura Ashley who very kindly sent me this classic style to add to my collection. Oh my goodness the tailoring is pretty perfect.

Despite the darker mornings I refuse to dull down my wardrobe, two of my favourite colours are grey and pink – I couldn’t resist adding a pop of pink to this classic style. I love nothing more than adding a bright colour to my winter wardrobe if nothing else it reminds me of summer.

Lastly, I wanted to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has left lovely comments on my blog and Instagram lately. I really do appreciate all of your love and support – having an online presence can be really difficult at times which has meant that I have questioned whether I should continue to share my love of fashion with you. But in all honesty after retreating to a group of friends for moral support I have realised that I am apart of a truly lovely community and have made some lovely friends here in this online world.

Aww thank you Kerry, even though I’ll often wear one or two religiously I love to style an outfit around a coat. Does that make me sad? 🙂 x

What a gorgeous selection of coats! I have two and they’re both dark, and definitely not as stylish as these ones. I think we need a shopping trip together so I can soak up some fashion advice. I’m struggling so much wit my wardrobe at the moment! Also, you look fabulous in all of these photos – you’re so photogenic x

I got into coats last year and now have 3 that i regularly rotate and love. I have the pale grey one that you have and also a big cuddly red one that makes a bold statement and then a long black one. I am really ‘for’ long coats too as I feel the cold so badly and have to stand on the sidelines of football/rugby matches on a regular basis. I love the look of that mustard one but sadly can’t pull of that colour. Can I ask one question? Do you have a wardrobe simply for coats?! Oh and please don’t give up sharing your fashion posts, there are a few unkind, haters out there but on the whole, I think your posts are received very favourably. Keep going. xx

Yay for a fellow coat lover. In answer to your question I do indeed have a dedicated rail for my coats :). Bit of a clothes room geek here. Thanks for the support x

I am a huge admirer of your coat collection KA! I’m especially loving the pink teddy coat, I want it so bad but worry it would just swamp me as I’m so short.. hmm.. wonder if they do a petite version? xx
