Voltron – The ’80s classic returns to defend the universe against evil with the help of five unlikely heroes and their flying robot lions who unite to form the megapowerful Voltron and defend the universe from evil. My 6 year old is hooked and has been glued to the series since it aired on POP a few weeks ago. As a child who grew up in the ’80s I can’t help but wonder how I missed it. Were you a fan? Mr H was an avid fan apparently and so I have listened intently as he has been taking George back in time and introducing him to some of the history behind the new series from DreamWorks – Voltron Legendary Defender.
Here’s what I have learnt… They are a group of teenagers who are transported from earth, become pilots for robotic lions during an intergalactic war. George tells me… When the pilots (who are cool kids mummy) activate their lion vehicles they transform into a mighty robot called Voltron. He LOVES the new episodes and already we have a planner full of the latest episodes. It’s lovely seeing him watch a more grown up TV show, although I’m not sure who is enjoying it more, him or Mr H!
The lovely people over at DreamWorks have sent us a limited edition VR Headset to enjoy whilst we watch the new series. I hadn’t expected George to take to the headset as much as he did but within a few seconds of mastering the app he was wandering around the room in another world – exploring Voltron. I love how the Headset has allowed George to discover the universe of Voltron. Watching him stomp around the room thinking he is actually in the cockpit or in reaching distance of one of the robotic lions has been so much fun. I don’t remember this show from years ago but it seems to have grabbed my six year olds attention.
Allow me to indulge you in a little video I made of the VR Headset in action…
Have you seen the latest episode of Voltron? I’d love to know what you think. Personally I’m a little in love with the robotic lions and the history behind the characters. I can see us going right back to the original series and watching them together as a family.
I have added this post to Colette’s #TriedTested over on her blog We’re Going On An Adventure.
