Our little family holiday bucket list…

I don’t know about you but planning ahead is a must for our little family. As the new year breaks we always sit down together as a family and plan the adventures we would like to have in the coming months. Having something to plan and look forward to like a holiday is high on the bucket list for Mr H and I. I looked over our list for 2017 a few days ago and already we have ticked most off which got me thinking ahead to 2018. I am dreaming of sunnier destinations – especially when we have spent the last few weeks dodging rain showers and unpacking our autumn wardrobes rather than wearing sandals and baring our ankles.

Looking back over holiday snaps is one of my favourite past times, recalling memories and picking out which were our best bits. We have so many countries on our little family bucket list – Thailand, America, Portugal, and Italy are top of the list. The last time we visited Thailand was in 2011 when we celebrated our honeymoon. Unbeknown to us we were pregnant with our now six-year-old.

Next year we are hoping to spread our wings a little further. We’re feeling brave and ready to travel further afield. We’re thinking about Thailand as it holds so many wonderful memories for us from before we became parents – how fantastic would it be to re live them with our little adventurer. Ever since we explored the area on our honeymoon we have been desperate to return. Our little boy loves to explore, he absolutely adores the beach and quite simply is happiest when splashing in the sea and building a sandcastle. I’m so excited at the prospect of introducing him to Thailand.

When it comes to searching for family friendly accommodation I am always left feeling a little lost. Where do you look? I have always thought it was a mine field. The lovely team over at Clickstay have a really superb collection of villas and apartments worldwide. Last year we enjoyed our first family holiday in Spain and as the new year broke we booked to return as we loved everything that Torrevieja had to offer. I feel so much more confident about travelling a little further afield for our next trip after exploring Spain.

We’re not really a package holiday family, we love to explore and as our gorgeous boy wouldn’t enjoy holiday clubs we would much prefer a quiet little coastal town. A place to escape, perhaps a private villa or apartment, ideally with a pool where we can laze around to rest tired feet. A spot surrounded by locals where we can soak up the atmosphere and culture – where we can spend time together as a family. We want to be far enough away from the noise but close enough to a beach, restaurants and local shops.

This is what we found when we visited Spain last year – it really suited everyone. The home comforts of an apartment and lets not forget a view like no other. What would be on your list of must haves? This villa is the type of holiday we were thinking of for our next family holiday.

You can also find travel advice and family friendly specific holidays on the Clickstay website which we found really useful. Such a great resource for those travelling with young families. And now to pack our suitcases for our next holiday in Spain, only one more week at the office before popping my out of office on for two whole weeks.
