Together is a wonderful place to be…

Time spent with family is worth every second. Last weekend we escaped to St Anne’s – Lytham for a little break to celebrate Mr H’s birthday. Something we never do, our holidays are usually a week long, completely planned or our days out are just that a day out, so to escape home life for a weekend at the seaside without much planning was a real treat. We enjoyed a weekend of kisses, smiles and gorgeous blue skies. We were blessed with sunshine and made so many memories which have topped up my mummy heart to keep me going until our next trip to the seaside in a few weeks.

Visiting the beach whether in the winter or summer is something we love to do together, its our happy place, a place we all escape to. You can see it in our body language, we physically relax, we let go of the little things and breathe. Is there anything more relaxing than the feeling of sand in your toes, the sea air, the wind in your hair, and lets not forget eating fish and chips whilst snuggled up in a sand dune. If ever we give our gorgeous boy the opportunity to go anywhere he will always ask if we can go to the beach, I love that he has the same love for a little trip to the seaside as we both do.

As a family we lead quite a structured life, Monday to Friday we run completely by military precision and often go by the rule of work, eat, sleep, repeat – with the exception of school and after school clubs for our gorgeous boy. And so, a little spontaneity and time together as a family was just what we all needed. I stumbled across this quote about family life and couldn’t help but feel like this is perfect for our little family. Families need unstructured time when relationships can deepen and real parenting can take place. Take time to listen, to laugh and to play together. The joy of motherhood comes in moments (Russell M Ballard).

And so, we have pledged to travel more with our gorgeous boy, to broaden his horizons, to open his eyes to new experiences, to capture his imagination and to answer his curiosity. Lil G loves nothing more than to go on an adventure. It isn’t about travelling to big exotic places, its about exploring together as a family and not being afraid to pack a bag. We have often put off escaping for little weekend breaks for a few reasons, in fear of hearing ‘are we nearly there yet’ and worrying about packing everything apart from the kitchen sink.

I am so glad that we ignored those feelings and set off on a little beach trip for two nights. It felt like we had been away for so much longer, we walked on the beach at sunrise, we took a little coastal stomp through Lytham, we built sandcastles, ate bacon rolls in our beach hut and watched the sunset from our apartment. It was the perfect weekend. Being together as a family is our happily ever after. I’ll be writing up a full review of our stay in the St Anne’s Beach Apartments in a few days so do look out for it.

I have added this post to Katie’s #OrdinaryMoments over on her blog Mummy Daddy Me.

These are stunning photos KA and you are so right, we too often live by structure and routine which we love and thrive on, but we also love to pack our bags and go somewhere new. I have always want to go to Lytham, it looks gorgeous. I love that quote too. x

What a blissful weekend KA. Our week days are similar, everything is run with military precision of who needs to be where and when and what we need. So that quote rang true for me too, we all need time out from the hustle and bustle of the day to day. xxx

We are absolutely loving being doing this as a family at the moment too. We have been doing much more travelling around the UK and have been loving every minute. It’s nice to switch off and enjoy time with each other. I had a bit of a break from social media whilst we went away to Wales this weekend and it was blissful xxx
